Πανεπιστήμιο της Σόφιας «St. St. Kliment Ohridski»

The Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” is the oldest and also the biggest university in Bulgaria. It has been established in 1888. There are a couple of disciplines, but the most desired one is Medicine. Sofia University has 16 faculties and three departments, where over 21,000 students receive their education. The academic year starts from October and finishes around June. The entry exam is different for each discipline. It has 16 faculties and three departments. It also is consistently among the four per cent of world universities according to QS World University Rankings.

Some other of the top universities in the country are the Medical University of Varna, the Medical University of Pleven and the Medical University of Sofia.

The main building of Sofia University is one of the symbols of the city. Evlogi and Hristo Georgievi were the main contributors that created it through donations, just as many other buildings in the city, such as the university library.

Sofia University is not the “campus” type. The main clusters of buildings are the Rectorate(the buildings of the Rector’s Office and the University Library). The other buildings are all around the city, as well as around the country. Some of the clusters in Sofia are ‘Sveta Nedelya’ Square – Faculty of Theology ‘St. Kliment Ohridski. James Boucher (mainly the buildings of the Faculty of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics), the area of the Pliska Hotel (125 Tsarigradsko Shosse Blvd., blocks 1, 2, 3 and 4 – mainly the Faculty of Economics and specialities of the Faculty of Philosophy and Faculty of Science, Education and Arts), Levski Monument (Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication), Todor Alexandrov Blvd. (Center for Foreign Languages).

There are Sofia University branches in Balchik, Kiten and Varna.
