Documents Required for International Applicants

Medical University – Sofia publishes a common document list for foreign applicants. The required documents include:

  1. Student Application Form in English and Bulgarian.
  2. Legalised copy of the secondary-school diploma with a certified translation into Bulgarian.
  3. NACID certificate recognising the completed secondary education and converting the relevant grades to the Bulgarian grading scale.
  4. Eligibility document confirming that the school qualification gives the applicant the right to continue to higher education in the country where secondary education was completed.
  5. Copy of a valid citizenship document, such as a passport or ID card.
  6. Two passport-size photographs attached to the registration forms.
  7. Declaration of authenticity of the submitted documents, signed by the applicant.

Documents must be legalised and officially translated into Bulgarian according to the rules that apply to the country where they were issued. If another person submits the documents on the applicant’s behalf, an appropriately legalised and translated power of attorney is also required.

Applicants from third countries should also follow the university’s current Visa D document requirements.

Common Application Mistakes

For international Nursing applicants, the most common problems are usually administrative rather than academic.

  • Using an outdated Nursing entrance-exam format. For 2026/27, the exam is an online written test plus an online oral interview, not the Biology-Chemistry-English exam used for Medicine, Dental Medicine and Pharmacy.
  • Preparing documents before checking the current legalisation and Bulgarian-translation requirements.
  • Missing the NACID recognition certificate.
  • Assuming the general Medicine admission dates also apply to Nursing. The Faculty of Public Health has a separate 2026/27 schedule.
  • Waiting until September to begin document preparation.

Checking the official requirements before submission can prevent delays during the application and enrollment process.
