The Medicine course at Varna Medical University is a six-year program (10 semesters plus a one-year state clinical internship) taught entirely in English. The first two years focus on pre-clinical studies and theory, the following three years on clinical study, and the final year is a 310-day internship with medical rotations. State licensing exams are required during the internship year. Mandatory summer practical internships are also undertaken during years 2-4. Successful completion of the program, internship, and exams leads to the MD qualification and a globally recognized Master’s degree. Many graduates remain in Bulgaria, while others return home or practice elsewhere. Thousands of medical professionals have graduated from Bulgarian universities.

Varna Medical University also offers other programs: Dentistry is a full-time, six-year program consisting of ten semesters of study, a 135-day pre-graduation practice, and two 30-day training practices after the sixth and eighth semesters. The five-year, full-time Pharmacy course includes the study program plus two 6-day training practices after the fourth and sixth semesters, followed by a pre-graduation pharmacy internship after the ninth semester. MU-Varna does not offer graduate entry medicine or accept student transfers. A 9-month pre-med course in English is available for international students, comprising General English (580 hours) and English for Health Sciences (94 hours).

To gain admission to Varna Medical University, you must successfully pass entrance exams and have good high school grades in Biology and Chemistry. The entry test (for EU applicants) covers high school level Biology and Chemistry. Non-native English speakers also take an English test.

The online entrance exam consists of five sections:
